• 1998: Won a research grant from the African Studies Centre, Leiden of Ksh. 50,000 to study marine bivalves in protected and unprotected areas at the Kenyan Coast
• 2003: Won a research grant of USD 50, 000 as a Team of four researchers to carry research on the Development and dissemination of appropriate breeding technologies for wetland Clariid fishes in the Lake Victoria basin, East Africa.. Being funded by SIDA through the Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA).
