A planning meeting for the Kenya Case Study of the Fish2Sustainability Project of the Belmont Forum was held at the Dolphin Hall, Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute on 22nd October 2022. The meeting was attended by Researchers from KMFRI and the Technical University of Mombasa to plan activities to be undertaken in Kenya during the six month case study in Kenya.
The Project Fish2Sustainability: Enhancing the Contribution of Small-Scale Fisheries to the Sustainable Development Goals aims at assessing the relationships and contribution of small-scale fisheries (SSF) towards the SDGs. The Project is part of the Belmont Forum call for Collaborative Research Actions (CRA) towards Pathways to Sustainability. The Project which started in August 2021, will undertake SSF assessment in six countries (Colombia, Ecuador, Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico and Nigeria) using a Rapid Appraisal Framework tool developed during the first phase of the Project (WP1).
In Kenya the project is hosted by KMFRI and will be undertaken in collaboration with Kenya Fisheries Service, The Technical University of Mombasa and The Nature Conservancy with funding from the National Research Foundation of South Africa.
